If a tree falls in the woods, does it make noise?

And on the same note, does a blog posted ever get read? I've been alternating between
Xanga and Blogger. I was thinking maybe, I should just double post?

Life Changes
Well its my 2nd day in a row where I have gone out and run/jogged for about 30 minutes. A few weeks ago I found that I couldn't even spring 100 yards, so I decided its time to make a difference...but I've been putting off exercise for awhile now. I'm hoping to enter some races next year. But after jogging at the gym tonight, I went and purchased my food, and spent about half an hour getting lunch ready for tomorrow. This is also making me more conscientious of my time. Like- I have to plan time to run, and thus I sort of plan my other activiities.

I am also inspired by a friend who ran his first marathon last year. And get this...the marathon was called "When Pigs Fly", and on it is a pig flying, cape and all over Cincinnatti. My friend flew up there to run, cuz his brother lives up there, and they ran it together. They are going to do the PF Chang race in PHX. Me, I don't know. I'm just hoping to shed some pounds.

Book Thoughts #15

Last week or two, I was surfing the Liquid Forums, or the Liquid Website?, and I read about a book entitled "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller. So I was interested, def. interested. Much is made about how this book conveys Christian spirituality in a different way...at least that is my impression from the cover quotes. And I was surprised that what you have a series of "new-realism" essays (the author's own words). I found basically a guy writing from his heart. We see his feelings about the church today, and I daresay that he is not off base. The author offers a Christianity outside the mainstream conception of Christianity, and I think that his criticism of the church are right on. That we preach unconditional love, but in practice it is anything but.

Its interesting because I have been dwelling on some of the same issues that Miller writes about. How do we live amongst PAGANS? Just kidding. Miller's tone was anything but sarcastic. I think Miller was trying to resent a different brand of Christianity, a more spirtual, less pharisaic, more accepting, less judgemental Christianity. Anyhoo, a book worth the time, check it out.

--boy I feel tired--Wow, October has just flown by. Pretty soon it will be November, and December. This is the busy time of the year for many people. At work, we had to work last Saturday, and Late on Thursday for a parent converence...so its been a bit tiring. I recently purchased these small books, hoping to get my book count higher! Maybe I could finish with having read 25 books this year...but buying those short ones, that's totally not right huh? But the topics were interesting. Yikes a bit of the OCD is coming out.

==football!===
Watching a bit of the Cowboys - Packers game at Lambeau field. I like the way this game looks, lots of shots from the field. And it seems like every Packer game, you see this shot of QB Brett Farve waiting to get in. He appears as a general waiting to go to battle. Watching these guys run reminds me that I need to pound the pavement, I've been feeling myself grow more out of shape as the weeks wear on. I really need to get the lead out (ok enough psyching myself out)... Ahh, what is the fascination with football? Well, more on that some other time. Misc. and Book Thoughts #14

Miscellany

I'm out in Dallas, Texas, one of the big cities of the SW. And I'm just hanging out. Trying to read, but too many distractions, t.v., computer, stuff like that...Its kind of cool to get away for awhile.

China Dog and Other Stories from a Chinese Laundry

By Judy Fong Bates, this book is a collection of 8 stories that seem to begin in the early part of the last century leading up to modern times. These stories are glimpses into the Chinese Immigrant experience in Canada.

When I picked it up, I was in the afterglow of reading Kim Wong Keltner's "Dim Sum of All Things." I don't know if I was consciously hoping to find a voice that shared my own experience, but "China Dog" did speak to me. I laughed and could identify with some of the cultural conflicts that these characters faced.

I like to read short stories once in awhile, its nice to have something quick to read and enjoy.

Its Raining Down in Texas

Currently in Austin, and its pouring cats and dogs...my two yr old nephew can't seem to sleep, and here I am surfing the web.

I read this:

The two men meet again in a nationally televised game at Staples Center on Dec. 25, a date O'Neal seems to be eyeing with renewed intensity.

"The Christmas game is going to be the highest-rated game ever," O'Neal said

Concerns the Kobe-Shaq game. I'm thinking I'm not gonna watch it now!

Sort of cool to have a few weeks off for the intercession. Today, we're going to the UT-Baylor game, if the water doesn't cancel things. (Well, lightning would prb. cancel it...) and I'm thinking of trying to see Toni Price in concert. On Sunday, contemplating going over to my brother's. He has NFL Game Day on the satellite. Yikes its going to be a busy week, flying back to EP, and Dallas on Wed. Houston over the weekend. And back again, for work on Monday October 11.
